The deputy looked toward the house and then back at Michael.
“We were told you blocked your father’s only exit and refused to move the vehicle unless he signed over his property.”
Michael’s face changed.
“That’s not what happened.”
“Did you park the truck across the road?”
“Yes, but—”
“Did you tell your father it would remain there until he signed a contract?”
Michael hesitated.
“It was part of a negotiation.”
“A negotiation requires both parties to participate voluntarily.”
“You don’t understand. My father is grieving. He isn’t thinking clearly.”
Harry stepped forward.
“David sounded perfectly clear when he called me.”
Michael turned toward him.
“Who are you?”
“Harry Collins. I live down the road. I served with the county for thirty years.”
“This has nothing to do with you.”
“It became my concern when David called and said he was being prevented from leaving his own home.”
