Gwen grabbed the doorframe.
I felt like the room tilted beneath me.
All morning I’d believed this was about stolen money.
Cruelty.
Greed.
But the paperwork suggested something far darker needed to be investigated.
I immediately photographed the documents and contacted my attorney.
Then Gwen looked at one of the medical statements.
Her expression changed.
“Daniel…”
“What?”
She pointed at a physician’s name.
“I’ve never seen this doctor.”
I looked closer.
The paperwork showed repeated appointments.
Medication reviews.
Payments.
All supposedly for Gwen.
But she had never attended them.
Someone had been creating a medical paper trail in my wife’s name.
And whatever my mother had been hiding…
it had started months before Gwen even knew she had cancer.
