I Planned a Wedding for a Rich Woman – But On the Big Day, My Husband Stepped Out of the Groom’s Limousine

Sean walked into the kitchen with a huge grin.

“I have an early flight to Chicago in the morning,” he announced. “Job interview. It’s a sure thing. This job will save me from poverty!”

“Where are you going in that?”

“… save ME from poverty,” he said.

I noticed that, but didn’t think much of it.

We were married, so obviously, if the job saved him then it would save me, too.

“Good luck, babe. Text me afterward, okay?”

He hesitated at the door, like he might say something enormous.

Then he shook his head and walked upstairs.

At midnight, Vanessa called again.

“… save ME from poverty,” he said.

“Tomorrow is going to change everything for both of us,” she said, her voice dangerously sweet.

“I hope you get everything you want, Vanessa.”

“Oh,” she said softly. “I will. You’re going to make sure of that.”

There was a double meaning behind those words… I just didn’t know it at the time.
