Daniel sat down.
“So…”
“So now the pregnancy is over.”
His expression changed.
“Claire.”
I looked at him.
Not angrily.
That surprised me.
For months, anger had burned through every thought of him.
Now I mostly felt tired.
“I want a divorce.”
Daniel started crying.
“Please.”
“No.”
“I can fix this.”
“No, Daniel.”
“I already ended everything with her. I’ll go to counseling. I’ll do anything.”
“You might.”
I kept my voice calm.
“And I hope you become a better man.”
His face crumpled.
“But you don’t have to become that man for me.”
He covered his eyes.
“Don’t do this now.”
I almost laughed at the irony.
“When would be convenient?”
“That’s not what I mean.”
“I know.”
I looked at Noah.
“We need to learn how to be parents together.”
Daniel wiped his face.
“We can do that while staying married.”
“I can’t.”
