My husband drove the car into the river with my brother and me trapped inside, but when the water had already reached my neck, the man who had been “paralyzed” for 15 years stood up from his wheelchair, k:ick:ed the door open, and whispered, “Play d:ea:d. He’s watching.” I didn’t ask any questions… until I saw who was waiting for my husband on the shore.

But part.

The arrests happened the next morning.

Garrett was at Mercer Marine.

Victor was in his office across town.

Penelope was at a prenatal appointment.

Agents took them separately.

None had time to warn the others.

Garrett resisted verbally.

He demanded a lawyer.

Victor said almost nothing.

Penelope cried.

Then she asked the question investigators expected.

“Is Rosalind’s body found?”

Agent Brooks later told me that was when they knew she still believed I was dead.

Two days later, Garrett sat in an interview room.

His attorney beside him.

Agent Brooks entered.

Then I walked in.

Garrett looked up.

His entire face changed.

He went white.

Not pale.

White.

His mouth opened.

Nothing came out.

I sat across from him.

His attorney whispered something.

Garrett did not hear.

He stared at me like I was a ghost.

Finally, he said, “No.”

I said nothing.

“No.”

He stood.

His attorney pulled him down.
