My husband str:uck my mother twice right in front of me and demanded, “Either she leaves tonight or our marriage is over.”

“Mrs. Miller, someone dropped this off for your husband a few days ago, but he hasn’t collected it yet.”

He handed me a thick paper envelope.

I opened it.

Inside was exactly $10,500 in crisp cash.

Attached to the money was a handwritten sticky note from Brandon’s brother Liam.

“Brandon, here is the full ten thousand five hundred I borrowed from you on Sunday. Thanks for the quick favor. Liam.”

I felt physically sick.

Claire immediately asked Mr. Davis to check the lobby security log to verify when the envelope had been delivered.

The record showed that the cash had arrived hours before Brandon attacked my mother.

I pulled out my phone and called Liam directly.

“Did Brandon know you had that $10,500 on Tuesday afternoon?”

Liam sounded confused.

“Of course he knew. He gave me the cash himself Sunday morning.”

My legs suddenly went weak.

I had to sit down on the lobby bench.
