MY HUSBAND TOOK HIS MISTRESS TO THE GALA AND LEFT ME WASHING DISHES

The jury convicted Grant on every major fraud count.

He was also convicted of identity theft, conspiracy, and attempted financial exploitation.

Mavis was convicted of obstruction, conspiracy, attempted murder, and financial fraud.

Brielle received a reduced conviction because of her cooperation.

At sentencing, I chose to speak.

Grant looked thinner.

The expensive tailoring was gone.

He wore a plain dark suit provided by his attorney.

“Grant was my husband for seven years,” I told the court. “I do not ask for the maximum sentence because he embarrassed me at a gala.”

His eyes lifted.

“I ask the court to consider the employees whose retirement funds he used, the contractors he left unpaid, the investors whose signatures he forged, and every person he treated as disposable once they stopped protecting his image.”

My voice shook once.

I allowed it.

“For years, I believed loving Grant meant preventing his failures from reaching him. Each rescue gave him permission to become more reckless.”
