MY HUSBAND TOOK HIS MISTRESS TO THE GALA AND LEFT ME WASHING DISHES

When I reached the ballroom floor, Grant rushed toward me.

“Seraphina, what is this?”

I looked at the necklace around his mistress’s throat.

Then at the man who had left me washing dishes in a mansion my company had saved from foreclosure.

“This is the meeting you have been begging Bellamy Holdings to give you.”

Rebecca handed him a sealed envelope.

Inside was formal notice terminating every loan guarantee, private partnership, and emergency credit facility tied to Holloway Meridian.

Grant tore open the first page.

His face turned white.

“You cannot do this.”

“I already did.”

“If Bellamy withdraws, my company collapses tomorrow.”

“No.”

I kept my voice calm.

“It collapses tonight.”

The museum’s security director approached Delaney.

“Ma’am, please remove the necklace. It has been reported stolen.”

Delaney touched the diamonds.

“Grant gave this to me.”

“They belonged to my grandmother,” I said.

Grant stepped between us.
