“There is no way back at all.”
She placed the folders on the table.
The first contained divorce papers.
The second contained board resolutions.
Claire opened the second folder.
“We have enough evidence to request an emergency meeting.”
“I want it tomorrow morning.”
“I already spoke to the independent directors.”
I looked at her.
“You did?”
“You told me to prepare.”
“I did.”
“They are available at eight.”
“Good.”
Claire hesitated.
“There is one more thing.”
“What?”
“Bianca’s twins.”
My chest tightened.
“What about them?”
“Adrian may claim the medical report is wrong.”
“He will.”
“He may demand another test.”
“He should.”
Claire watched me.
“You sound certain.”
“I am.”
The fertility clinic had repeated the analysis twice.
The results had been consistent.
That did not make paternity impossible.
Medicine rarely gives absolute guarantees.
But it made Adrian’s confidence absurd.
Claire tapped the folder.
“If the twins are not his, the personal scandal changes.”
