PART 2 The drive to South Muskoka Memorial Hospit…1

Then I opened Lily’s hospital room door.

And everything changed.

She looked so small sitting there.

Wrapped in a blanket.

Her hair still damp.

A bruise forming near her temple.

The moment she saw me, her face collapsed.

“Dad.”

I crossed the room and held her.

For a few seconds, neither of us spoke.

She just cried.

“I thought nobody believed me.”

I pulled back.

“I believe you.”

“But everyone keeps saying I might be wrong.”

“No.”

I looked directly into her eyes.

“You know what happened.”

She nodded slowly.

Then she whispered something that made my blood run cold.

“Dad… there was something else.”

“What?”

She looked toward the closed door.

Then lowered her voice.

“Ryan didn’t look surprised when I fell.”

I frowned.

“What do you mean?”

“He didn’t run to me.”

The room suddenly felt colder.

“He just stood there.”

Lily swallowed.

“He was watching the water.”
