The representative told me the credit application had been reviewed.
They confirmed that it had been submitted using information associated with me.
But there was good news.
The application had been declined before any funds were released.
I exhaled.
“So I don’t owe the loan?”
“Not from that application, no.”
I thanked her.
Then she said:
“There is one other issue.”
My stomach tightened.
“What issue?”
“There are several recent credit inquiries associated with your information.”
“How many?”
“Three.”
I closed my eyes.
“Three?”
“Yes.”
“Were they all approved?”
“No.”
“Who submitted them?”
“We can’t determine that from the report alone.”
I thanked her again.
When I hung up, I stared at the wall.
Three applications.
Not one.
Nathan had tried more than once.
I returned to my desk.
Then I opened my personal email.
There was a message from an unfamiliar address.
The subject line was:
You deserve to know the truth.
