After My Wife Died, My Son Tried to Steal My Land—When I Refused, He Trapped Me Inside My Own Home

He looked confident.

He had no idea that his plan was beginning to unravel.

The next half hour felt endless.

I paced from room to room, looking through the windows every few minutes. I listened for approaching engines, car doors, voices, or anything that might indicate Harry was coming.

A dozen fearful possibilities passed through my mind.

What if Harry could not reach anyone?

What if Michael became suspicious?

What if he moved the truck before the deputies arrived and later denied everything?

Then I remembered the security camera above the front porch.

Margaret and I had installed a small home surveillance system several years earlier after tools went missing from a neighbor’s barn. I rarely checked it and had almost forgotten it was there.

If the camera was still working, it might have recorded Michael’s arrival, the truck blocking the road, and at least part of our conversation.
