The Unseen Letter
One rainy afternoon, while sorting through the boxes in the attic, I found a small envelope tucked behind a stack of old newspapers. It was addressed to me, the handwriting unmistakably Rosa’s, the ink slightly smudged from time.
I opened it with trembling fingers.
Inside was a single sheet of paper, a brief note:
Julián, if you’re reading this, you’ve already done what I asked. But there’s one more thing. The key you used to open the chest… it’s not the only one. There’s a second box, hidden under the floorboards of the house next door, at 23 Calle del Sol. It contains… the truth about my death.
My breath caught. My mind raced back to the night Rosa died, the hospital, the doctor’s calm voice. I had never suspected foul play. The note hinted at a secret she had kept, a truth she had guarded even from me.
