MY HUSBAND TOOK HIS MISTRESS TO THE GALA AND LEFT ME WASHING DISHES

The laptops remained intact.

Rebecca called me from the courthouse after Delaney requested a meeting.

“She wants to cooperate.”

“In exchange for what?”

“A reduced charge and protection from Grant.”

“Does she believe he will hurt her?”

“She believes he intends to blame her for everything.”

That part was unsurprising.

Grant treated people as valuable only while they carried something for him.

The moment the burden became dangerous, he stepped away.

I agreed to attend Delaney’s interview as an observer.

She entered wearing jail-issued clothing.

Without the burgundy gown, styled hair, and diamonds, she looked younger than I expected.

Thirty-five.

Only five years younger than me.

She sat across the table but avoided my eyes.

“I did not know you were Bellamy’s chairwoman.”

“I know.”

“Grant said you processed family requests.”

“He believed I worked for myself.”

Delaney flinched.

“I thought the money came from legitimate company bonuses.”
