“Three houses?”
“He said they were tax-efficient compensation.”
“And my necklace?”
Her eyes filled.
“He told me you had agreed to a private separation.”
“Did you ever ask me?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I did not want the answer.”
It was the first honest thing she said.
Delaney had not created Grant’s marriage vows.
She still chose to benefit from their violation.
She had seen family photographs inside the mansion.
Seen my clothing in the bedroom.
Watched me serve dinner while she touched my husband in the hallway.
Ignorance did not explain that.
Convenience did.
“What does Grant plan to blame on you?” I asked.
She looked toward Rebecca.
“He created documents showing I approved the shell companies.”
“Did you?”
“Some.”
“Which ones?”
“The Miami apartment and the consulting company.”
“And the marina transfers?”
“No. He used my credentials.”
“Just as he used mine.”
Delaney nodded.
“He said if Bellamy audited the files, he would claim we were having an affair and I acted without authorization.”
