Then the doors opened.
Adrian entered without knocking.
He looked terrible.
His tie was crooked.
His face was pale.
Bianca was not with him.
“Naomi.”
Martin stood.
“This is a closed emergency session.”
“I am chief executive officer.”
“Not for this agenda item.”
Adrian looked at me.
“You did this.”
“Yes.”
His eyes narrowed.
“We need to speak privately.”
“No.”
“Now.”
I did not move.
Martin stepped between us.
“Sit down or leave.”
Adrian stared at him.
Then he sat.
Claire handed him a copy of the evidence.
He barely looked at it.
Instead, he glared at me.
“Are you trying to destroy the company because you’re angry?”
“No.”
I kept my voice level.
“I am protecting the company because you used it like a personal bank account.”
“That is not what happened.”
“Then explain Northbridge.”
He hesitated.
That hesitation told everyone enough.
“It was a legitimate consulting arrangement.”
