“With Bianca’s cousin?”
He froze.
One director looked up sharply.
I continued.
“With no employees?”
Silence.
“No office?”
Silence.
“No deliverables?”
Silence again.
Adrian’s face reddened.
“You had no right to go through my private records.”
“They were company records.”
He looked toward Evelyn.
She said nothing.
Then Adrian made the mistake that ended him.
He laughed.
A short, bitter laugh.
“You think this company runs because of your paperwork?”
No one moved.
He pointed at me.
“You sit behind compliance reports while I bring in billions.”
I nodded.
“And you bring newborns into my home while billing their mother’s expenses to shareholders.”
His face changed.
Martin looked down.
One director coughed.
Evelyn closed her eyes.
Adrian lowered his voice.
“That is personal.”
“The affair is personal.”
I tapped the documents.
“The theft is not.”
He stood.
“I did not steal.”
Claire spoke for the first time.
