Step 3: Steep
Place the prepared rosemary in a teapot, heatproof mug, or other suitable container.
Pour the hot water over the rosemary and cover the container.
Allow it to steep for approximately 5–10 minutes.
Five minutes creates a relatively mild infusion. If you enjoy a stronger herbal flavor, leave it slightly longer and taste as you go.
Step 4: Strain
Remove the rosemary sprigs or pour the infusion through a fine strainer.
If you used dried rosemary, careful straining is particularly useful because small pieces can otherwise remain in
the drink.
Step 5: Add Lemon or Honey
Taste the tea before adding anything.
If desired, stir in 1–2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice. For sweetness, add approximately 1 teaspoon of honey after the tea has cooled slightly.
Serve warm.
How Long Should Rosemary Tea Steep?
A good starting point is 5–10 minutes.
Unlike very mild herbs, rosemary has a powerful flavor. Leaving a large amount of rosemary in hot water for an unnecessarily long period can result in a bitter, almost medicinal-tasting drink.
