She Shaved My Head to Make Me Quit My Job—Then I Discovered What My Husband Was Hiding

“You calculated my raise.”

He didn’t answer.

“You knew exactly how much more I would make.”

Silence.

“You planned around it.”

“I was trying to make a budget.”

“No.”

I turned the laptop toward him.

“You were making a plan for my money.”

His eyes filled with tears.

“I thought we were a family.”

“We are supposed to be.”

“Then why can’t I use our money?”

“Because you didn’t ask.”

He looked at me.

“I was your husband.”

“And that was exactly why I trusted you.”

The words hung in the room.

Margaret reached for the spreadsheet.

She looked at it.

Then her face changed.

“You wrote this?”

Nathan nodded.

She kept reading.

Then she looked at him.

“You were counting her promotion?”

“I needed the income.”

Margaret’s expression hardened.

“You never told me that.”

Nathan looked at her.

“You knew everything else.”

“I knew you were struggling.”
