She Shaved My Head to Make Me Quit My Job—Then I Discovered What My Husband Was Hiding

“You helped me.”

“I thought you were going to get another job.”

Nathan said nothing.

Margaret looked at me.

“I didn’t know he had planned around your promotion.”

I believed her.

At least about that part.

But there was something else I needed to know.

“Margaret.”

“Yes?”

“Why did you tell me to quit?”

She stared at the table.

“I thought if you stopped working, Nathan would finally take responsibility.”

I frowned.

“That makes even less sense.”

She looked at Nathan.

“He told me you were going to leave him anyway.”

Nathan closed his eyes.

“And he told me that if you became financially independent, you would have no reason to stay.”

I looked at Nathan.

“So you convinced your mother I was going to leave.”

“Yes.”

“Then convinced her I needed to quit.”

“Yes.”

“And then you tried to use my income to consolidate your debt.”

“Yes.”

I sat back.
